Embracing Controversy: The Real Essence of Self-Care

I decided that I wanted to talk about something that might come across as a little bit controversial from time to time, and that is the term self-care. So, let's dive into the feedback I often receive and explore why some people find it overused or frustrating. As a self-care strategist, I'm here to own the heck out of self-care, and by the end of this blog, I hope you'll join me in embracing it as an essential part of our lives.

While some might dismiss self-care as merely indulging in bonbons and bubble baths, I believe it goes much deeper. I am passionate about promoting strategies that create a personal, internal, body-mind-soul connection for self-care. Whether you call it self-care or wellness, the essence remains the same – it's about looking after yourself in a way that nurtures every aspect of your being.

One powerful self-care strategy that often gets overlooked is breathwork. It's not just about the simple act of inhaling and exhaling; it's about creating a connection with your internal self. – call it what you want, but at the end of the day, it is self-care.

One effective breathwork technique I encourage is the square breath. Inhale through the nose, hold, exhale through the mouth, hold – a pattern that can be adjusted to your comfort. This technique helps you connect with your breath, center your mind, and create a sense of internal peace.

Another variation is inhaling positivity and exhaling negativity. Some even attach colors to this practice, breathing in vibrant, positive colors and exhaling any negativity as a different hue. It's a simple yet impactful way to reset your mindset, especially during moments of angst or anxiousness.

I invite you to pause for a second and engage in these breathwork techniques. Just one minute can make a significant change, calming your nervous system and bringing about a sense of tranquility. It's a tool that transcends age and can be incorporated into anyone's routine.

In a world where the term self-care might be met with skepticism, it's essential to delve into its true meaning. Beyond the clichés and stereotypes, self-care is about creating strategies that foster holistic well-being. So, own the heck out of self-care, embrace the power of breath, and let it become a cornerstone in your journey towards a more balanced and fulfilled life.
